About us

The New Zealand construction industry has one of the highest rates of accident and injury. Construction accounts for 10% of the workforce and 17% of ACC claims at an annual cost of $138 million.

BIMSafe NZ is a three-year, $1.7m collaboration between the building industry and government that aims to reduce accident and injury rates in New Zealand through greater understanding, communication and mitigation of risk.

A collaborative project

The BIMSafe NZ Project is being delivered by a collaboration between the Canterbury Safety Charter’s Professional Services Working Group and the University of Canterbury’s Building Innovation Partnership.

The project is governed by a Steering Group, comprising of Chris Alderson (CHASNZ), Lindsay Crossen (Building Innovation Partnership), and Ian Campbell (Canterbury Safety Charter).

The BIMSafe NZ Advisory Group consists of members of the Canterbury Safety Charter’s Professional Services Working Group, Building Innovation Partnership, and other industry professionals. The Advisory Group provides guidance and support to the management team.
